I got a picture with the famous Rowdy Girl who started it all at rowdygirlsanctuary . From what I was told by Renee that this is a rare photo. 😄 This Sanctuary is beautiful with 57 cows! The most I’ve seen at a sanctuary. The husband and wife were ex-ranchers who went vegan and started a sanctuary. Their story is amazing and they’re working hard to help other ranchers make the transition. They also took in 15 lucky chickens from the rescue.
Cute baby Guru! He came with his mother, but due to birthing complications she passed away that same night. Now Guru is being bottle fed, and keeps trying to nurse on every animal at the farm (humans included)! He is a sweet little guy and loves cuddles and kisses.

The story of Rowdy Girl Sanctuary has two distinct rhythms.
-
1) I married my husband, Tommy Sonnen for the 2nd time convinced nothing would shake our marriage—going vegan was considered a betrayal of his tradition, culture and ethics.

2) because we were an everyday Texas family with a small cattle ranch, the story of a ranchers wife going vegan spread like wildfire.

Combine that story with me and Tommy’s love story and you get the Rowdy Girl story. The story had to have both distinct elements—love and betrayal of what is considered sacred.

It’s time to unearth the belief system that ranching is sacred. Just like “humane meat” is a myth, so is the idea that the ranching industry has a sacred beginning. -
The herding of animals started almost 10,000 years ago for profit, power, and prestige over owning the most land and animals.

The word WAR in Sanskrit means “the desire for more cattle”. Fighting each other for land and livestock is not sacred. -
I believe we betrayed our humanity as earthlings the moment we began commodifying animals, and stopped being their good stewards.

So, here we are. It’s time to start new traditions that don’t objectify animals. They deserve to live on this earth as much or more than we do.

We don’t have to harm animals to eat. It’s time to love all animals, even the ones we were taught are food.

One of our amazing donors bought our cows this cow brush - and quite frankly I love it too! Additionally, I thought it was time for me to go hang out with the rowdy critters since for the past week I’ve been knee deep in hacker mania. So glad THATS OVER!
Being with all the animals is just what I needed today. The weather was perfect, and the animals are always so perfect in every way. I love them everyone like my own babies, and appreciate all of you that help support our rowdy family. We can’t do this without you!
Like that bright yellow cow brush there - a great donor named Marcy emailed me before Christmas and said that she was sending that to us for a Christmas present for the herd. We’ve always wanted one, and the herd looooves it! We appreciate the kind gesture so much because cow brushes are quite expensive! I can’t imagine buying that ourselves when we are always in need of hay, fencing, food, vet care, water repairs, etc.
And now we are in need of great big barn! This spring time we are gonna have a barn raising and fundraiser to build our rowdy residents a great big out house that we can all take a nap in 😉 - I can’t wait for that project!

LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS PLEASE - I’m gonna start a special group called the “Rowdy 5” real soon (THANKS FOR THE IDEA ASHER) - and to be a member of that special group you will have to either donate $5.00 a month or donate 5 hours a month - and the volunteer hours can be online too - so much needs to be done and we are really focused on bringing all of you into the work we do because together we are stronger - so how bout it - anyone want to be a Rowdy 5’er?
